Humanitarian service while attached to the 26th MEU. From 7- 9 June 2008 the 26th MEU provided humanitarian assistance and relief to residents of Indiana after sever storms caused tornados and flooding. The President of the United States having declared the area a national disaster, the CO 26th MEU responded under Title 10, Commander's Emergence Response. Marines and sailors of the 26th MEU, having been deployed to the area for pre-deployment training at Camp Atterbury, assisted in rescuing residents from flooded and destroyed homes, and filling and placing sandbags to limit further damage, among other things.
