Son of Gustav Fischer and Mary McCaughin Fischer.
Born Oct. 1896

Bob Fischer was a member of the 5th Marine Regiment Football Team, Bordeaux, France.
He was killed shortly after 5 pm on June 6th, 1918 as he advanced under machine gun fire into the wheat field in front of Belleau Wood.

Navy Cross

The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Robert McCaughin Fischer (MCSN: 85580), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 20th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action at Chateau-Thierry, France, 6 June 1918. Killed in action, Corporal Fischer gave the supreme proof of that extraordinary heroism which will serve as an example to hitherto untried troops.
