Last Known Activity:

PFC James Treadway entered the Marine Corps in August 1942.

He was trained as a parachutist and served in the South Pacific, Solomon Islands, 1943-4, L Company, 3rd Parahute Battalion, 1st Parachute Regiment.

He then was transferred to  B Company, 1st Battalion, 28th Marines.

He was severely wounded by shrapnel to both legs on 2 March 1945.  He died of those wound son 19 March 1945.

Initially interred on Guam where he had died. He was interred in Golden Gate National Cemetery, California.  He has a cenotaph in Grace Hill Cemetery, Perry, Noble County, Oklahoma

   
Comments/Citation:

Note: James was a direct descendant of a Cherokee Strip Pioneer, his mother, Clara E. Berger Treadway. His mother was living in Walnut Creek, California at the time of his loss. She and William F. Treadway had 5 children prior to his unfortunate death as an officer of the Perry Police Department, 21 February 1930.
