Founded on July 4th, 1934 by Federal Decree No. 24.569 to honour Navy personnel, Brazilian and foreign, who have served Brazil in a significant way or have distinguished themselves during the performance of their duties and, exceptionally, to civilians who have rendered relevant services to the National Navy. The Order has 5 classes as follows: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Chevalier.
