7th Interpreter Team (IT) (69)

from  1969-1970, 0251, 7th Interpreter Team, HQ Bn, 1st Marine Division  album
The entire compound was leveled in March '69 when the ammo dump next door went up. The V.C. claimed responsibility but it was actually caused by a JSR burning brush and the fire got out of control. The Seabees were able to rebuild just about everything by May. With that said our shower was a spigot about 3 feet out on the pipe over the gully on the left side of the building. The "mamma Sans" got a kick out seeing us shimmy out on the pipe to take a shower. There was no room for modesty. We built frames for the shower floor and traded a captured AK-47 for a few yards of cement off of a passing cement truck. Marine ingenuity at it's finest.
