Retired American naval aviator, test pilot, engineer, U.S. Marine Corps officer, and NASA astronaut. A veteran of three space flights, Cameron has logged over 561 hours space. He served as pilot on STS-37 (April 5–11, 1991), and was the spacecraft commander on STS-56 (April 9–17, 1993) and STS-74 (November 12–20, 1995).
Medal Honor - WWII - Sgt Lewis Kenneth Bausell
Corporal Lewis Kenneth Bausell (April 17, 1924 – September 18, 1944) was a United States Marine and posthumous recipient of the United States' highest military honor — the Medal of Honor — for his sacrifice of life, "above and beyond the call of duty", during World War II. During combat at Peleliu, he covered an exploding Japanese hand grenade in order to protect his comrades, and died of his wounds three days later. Bausell was the only enlisted Marine from the Nation's capital, Washington, D.C. to be awarded the Medal of Honor for actions during World War II.
WWI - Distguish Service Cross - Pvt Joseph M. Baker
As a private in the 67th Company of 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, the United States Army awarded him the Distinguished Service Cross for single-handedly destroying an enemy machinegun position while exposed to heavy fire during the Battle of Belleau Wood in France on June 6, 1918. He received the Navy Cross for the same action, where he shot the gunner with his rifle, rushed the machinegun position and bayonetted the crew
