Reflections on Sgt DAVIS's US Marine Corps Service

 Reflections On My Service

IF YOU PARTICIPATED IN ANY MILITARY OPERATIONS, INCLUDING COMBAT, HUMANITARIAN AND PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS, PLEASE DESCRIBE THOSE WHICH MADE A LASTING IMPACT ON YOU AND, IF LIFE-CHANGING, IN WHAT WAY?
Yes, First with 1/4/3 at Chu-Lai, then with 3rd Eng Bn. in Danang and Phu-Bai, then with "C" Company 7th Eng. Bn. in Danang 1965-1966.
FROM YOUR ENTIRE MILITARY SERVICE, DESCRIBE ANY MEMORIES YOU STILL REFLECT BACK ON TO THIS DAY.
My Junior DI at MCRD San Diego, was amazing; Cpl James L. Stelling.
OF ALL THE MEDALS, AWARDS, FORMAL PRESENTATIONS AND QUALIFICATION BADGES YOU RECEIVED, OR OTHER MEMORABILIA, WHICH ONE IS THE MOST MEANINGFUL TO YOU AND WHY?
My Combat Action Ribbon, because it proves I have the intestinal fortitude to do what needs to be done. Also my 7 Level Law Enforcement Qualification badge from the Air Force.
WHICH INDIVIDUAL(S) FROM YOUR TIME IN THE MILITARY STAND OUT AS HAVING THE MOST POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOU AND WHY?
Again, my junior DI Cpl James L. Stelling, because he was in my eyes "The Perfect MARINE!"
CAN YOU RECOUNT A PARTICULAR INCIDENT FROM YOUR SERVICE, WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN FUNNY AT THE TIME, BUT STILL MAKES YOU LAUGH?
I got caught smoking at MCRD San Diego, and so I had to "DUCK WALK" all over Camp Matthews. Also, After involvement in a fight with another recruit, I was told the Marine Corps threatened to kick me out for "Fighting"!
WHAT PROFESSION DID YOU FOLLOW AFTER YOUR MILITARY SERVICE AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW? IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY SERVING, WHAT IS YOUR PRESENT OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY?
After operating a radio in Danang, I became an Electronic Technician for the Army, Ultimately got into Law Enforcement, and then Retired from both.
WHAT MILITARY ASSOCIATIONS ARE YOU A MEMBER OF, IF ANY? WHAT SPECIFIC BENEFITS DO YOU DERIVE FROM YOUR MEMBERSHIPS?
Former member of the Marine Corps League. The unit was disbanded.
IN WHAT WAYS HAS SERVING IN THE MILITARY INFLUENCED THE WAY YOU HAVE APPROACHED YOUR LIFE AND YOUR CAREER? WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT YOUR TIME IN THE SERVICE?
The Marine Corps taught me to think positive, and stay focused on my goals.
BASED ON YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE WHO HAVE RECENTLY JOINED THE MARINE CORPS?
It's a hard but good life, Stay with it!
IN WHAT WAYS HAS TOGETHERWESERVED.COM HELPED YOU REMEMBER YOUR MILITARY SERVICE AND THE FRIENDS YOU SERVED WITH.
It reminds me daily of my former life in the Service, which I truly loved including the rigidity.
