Reflections on CDR Rocheford's US Marine Corps Service

 Reflections On My Service

TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, WHAT INFLUENCED HIS/HER DECISION TO JOIN THE MARINE CORPS?
The Vietnam War was well underway, and I felt a calling to defend my country.
TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE DIRECTION OR PATH HE/SHE TOOK IN HIS/HER MILITARY SERVICE. WHERE DID THEY GO TO BOOT CAMP AND WHAT UNITS, BASES, SHIPS OR SQUADRONS WERE THEY ASSIGNED TO? WHAT WAS HIS/HER REASON FOR LEAVING?
I enlisted in the Marine Corps right out of High School with an infantry MOS 0311, served during a very heated time in Vietnam with A Co, 1st Bn, 1st Marines during the TET Offensive. I left the Marine Corps to enter the Seminary and became a Catholic Priest, I later joined the Navy Chaplain Corps in 1987 so that I could serve and serve with Marines!
IF HE/SHE PARTICIPATED IN ANY MILITARY OPERATIONS, INCLUDING COMBAT, HUMANITARIAN AND PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS, TO THE BEST OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE, PLEASE DESCRIBE THOSE YOU FEEL WERE THE MOST SIGNIFICANT TO HIM/HER AND, IF LIFE-CHANGING, IN WHAT WAY.
I served in and during the TET Offensive in Vietnam, I served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm as a Chaplain, and then served again in OIF in Fallujah as a Chaplain.
OF ALL THEIR DUTY STATIONS OR ASSIGNMENTS, ARE YOU AWARE OF ANY HE/SHE HAD FONDEST MEMORIES OF AND WHY? WHICH WAS THEIR LEAST FAVORITE?
Serving as a Chaplain for the Fleet Marine Forces and Camp Lejeune.
