Reflections on Sgt Davis's US Marine Corps Service

 Reflections On My Service

PLEASE DESCRIBE WHO OR WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO JOIN THE MARINE CORPS.
I was young and a neighbor & friend had been killed in Vietnam, and I needed a change in my life.
WHETHER YOU WERE IN THE SERVICE FOR SEVERAL YEARS OR AS A CAREER, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE DIRECTION OR PATH YOU TOOK. WHERE DID YOU GO TO BOOT CAMP AND WHAT UNITS, BASES, SHIPS OR SQUADRONS WERE YOU ASSIGNED TO? WHAT WAS YOUR REASON FOR LEAVING?
I just wanted to learn as much as I could, about everything. I guess that's why I was a Engineer. "Jack of All Trades & Master of None"!
FROM YOUR ENTIRE MILITARY SERVICE, DESCRIBE ANY MEMORIES YOU STILL REFLECT BACK ON TO THIS DAY.
The friends that I made, the closeness, the family the unity we shared.
OF ALL THE MEDALS, AWARDS, FORMAL PRESENTATIONS AND QUALIFICATION BADGES YOU RECEIVED, OR OTHER MEMORABILIA, WHICH ONE IS THE MOST MEANINGFUL TO YOU AND WHY?
The National Defense, because it was awarded for the service to my Country.
WHICH INDIVIDUAL(S) FROM YOUR TIME IN THE MILITARY STAND OUT AS HAVING THE MOST POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOU AND WHY?
I think that would be a Marine I met in Vietnam he was in my unit. when I got there he had been in Nam. 10 months. His name was Neal, he was from Boston, MA When I got there he said to me "stay with me I will teach you EVERYTHING I know and hopefully it will keep you alive & you can pass it on" He made it home, so did I, but not before I passed it on!
WHAT PROFESSION DID YOU FOLLOW AFTER YOUR MILITARY SERVICE AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW? IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY SERVING, WHAT IS YOUR PRESENT OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY?
After service I started remodeling homes, I also built planes @ Lockheed, and delivered mail for the P.O. Now I just enjoy the time I can spend with my family & friends.
IN WHAT WAYS HAS SERVING IN THE MILITARY INFLUENCED THE WAY YOU HAVE APPROACHED YOUR LIFE AND YOUR CAREER? WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT YOUR TIME IN THE SERVICE?
It has made me a BIGGER person, with a much better understanding of the world and the people I share it with, "we are more alike than not".
BASED ON YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE WHO HAVE RECENTLY JOINED THE MARINE CORPS?
Stay the Course.
IN WHAT WAYS HAS TOGETHERWESERVED.COM HELPED YOU REMEMBER YOUR MILITARY SERVICE AND THE FRIENDS YOU SERVED WITH.
One thing it has brought so many GOOD memories. And allowed me to reach out to other Marines, so my family has grown. It has also helped me to connect with people I had not seen or talked with for over 30 years. It has truly been a Blessing to me.
