 Additional Information
What are you doing now:

After the Corps, I moved back to Louisville and went to college at Bellarmine University where I majored in Elementary & Special Education.  It was here I found God once again and even considered a religious life as a Jesuit.  The Lord did not have this path in mind for me at the time.  I went on to marry Paige Collins in 1996.  We had our first son in 1997 and the next in 1998.  I graduated from college in 1998 too.  During college, in my free time I completed my Microsoft Certified Engineer certification.  Ironically, it was teaching Microsoft engineering products that would be my out of college career.  I worked in DC at a Microsoft Training Center until the summer of 1999.  In June 1999, I started working for Microsoft in Redmond, Washington.

Other Comments:

In 2002, my USMC injuries started to be aggravated again.  I would go on fighting these injuries everyday.  In 2008, these injuries became so bad that after 16 years of fending off the surgical knife, I finally gave in.  The surgery went well but post surgical complications resulted in the surgery leaving me worse off then what I started with.  This led to my medical retirement from Microsoft in 2010 at age 37.

This early retirement has left me confined to my recliner for the most part.  My legs and feet are in a constant state of nerve pain.  My back is sore and general movement is painful.

Given this early retirement, I have dedicated my energies to God, family and to helping my fellow Veterans.  I am an active member of the Leathernecks MC and serve as the local chaplain.  I am also a lifetime member of the DAV and member at large of the Marine Corps League.

When possible I have been taking courses through Liberty University for completion of a Masters of Divinity.

Reflections on Cpl MacBeth's US Marine Corps Service

 Reflections On My Service

PLEASE DESCRIBE WHO OR WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO JOIN THE MARINE CORPS.
My father started my interest in the military as he was a 35 year veteran of the Army. In high school, I participated in Marine JROTC. Originally, my interest was a result of using the military as a means of college education.
WHETHER YOU WERE IN THE SERVICE FOR SEVERAL YEARS OR AS A CAREER, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE DIRECTION OR PATH YOU TOOK. WHERE DID YOU GO TO BOOT CAMP AND WHAT UNITS, BASES, SHIPS OR SQUADRONS WERE YOU ASSIGNED TO? WHAT WAS YOUR REASON FOR LEAVING?
I started like many at Paris Island 3rd Btn. From there I went to Lejeune for infantry training. Upon completion I received orders to ATC school in Millington, TN. After graduation, I received PCS orders to Beaufort, SC Mag-31.

OF ALL YOUR DUTY STATIONS OR ASSIGNMENTS, WHICH ONE DO YOU HAVE FONDEST MEMORIES OF AND WHY? WHICH WAS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE?
My fondest memories where playing Spades in the tower at MCAS Beaufort. We would always cheat and one day we were plugged in while playing. We had setup our position mic to on so we could share cards. It was a huge one sided victory as you can imagine.

Another time while doing field exercises we caught our Capt and handcuffed him to a tree while steeling his god gun for the Miles gear.

On another occasion I remember sleeping off a rough night under the counter of the tower.
FROM YOUR ENTIRE MILITARY SERVICE, DESCRIBE ANY MEMORIES YOU STILL REFLECT BACK ON TO THIS DAY.
I remember serving as a staff member for a First Sergeant. He gave great advice and guidance on serving in the Corps.
WHICH INDIVIDUAL(S) FROM YOUR TIME IN THE MILITARY STAND OUT AS HAVING THE MOST POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOU AND WHY?
Major Allen Broussard & Captain Kenneth Poteet.

These were my MCJROTC instructors. They were like two additional fathers.
CAN YOU RECOUNT A PARTICULAR INCIDENT FROM YOUR SERVICE, WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN FUNNY AT THE TIME, BUT STILL MAKES YOU LAUGH?
After having my cover frozen by a female Marine, I was able to freeze her running bra. Needless to say the high beams were on throughout PT that day.

WHAT PROFESSION DID YOU FOLLOW AFTER YOUR MILITARY SERVICE AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOW? IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY SERVING, WHAT IS YOUR PRESENT OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY?
In July 1999, I was offered a job with Microsoft in Seattle. I would go on to spend the next 11 years working at Microsoft in several positions from engineer, consultant, developer and eventually manager. My career took me from Seattle to Charlotte and eventually back to my real home of Florida.

While employed at Microsoft, I worked as a consultant and in such capacity I was able to work with some really great customers. My favorite was with the White House Military Organization to deploy and customize SharePoint as a platform for Presidential travel collaboration. I was really able to push the product to its full potential with this customer.

While employed at Microsoft, I also took up writing. In 2003, I published my first book with Apress, the C# Programmer's Handbook. I followed it up with contributions to the Microsoft Premier .Net Debugging Manual and my own training manual the SharePoint Developers manual.
WHAT MILITARY ASSOCIATIONS ARE YOU A MEMBER OF, IF ANY? WHAT SPECIFIC BENEFITS DO YOU DERIVE FROM YOUR MEMBERSHIPS?
Leathernecks MC.

Marine Corps League.

Disabled American Veterans.
IN WHAT WAYS HAS SERVING IN THE MILITARY INFLUENCED THE WAY YOU HAVE APPROACHED YOUR LIFE AND YOUR CAREER? WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT YOUR TIME IN THE SERVICE?
The Corps matured me beyond my years. Discipline, initiative and hard work were the key traits I used most as a former Marine.
BASED ON YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE WHO HAVE RECENTLY JOINED THE MARINE CORPS?
Be glad you can still serve. It is an honor to serve your country. Treat every moment as if it were your last because it very well could be. You will never again experience the camaraderie that you have been given while serving the Corps.

Never let yourself get demotivated by what you are asked to do. No matter how dumb the task is someone still has to do it. Today it is you, but tomorrow it will be you telling someone else to do it. You will always laugh about doing whatever it was that pisses you off today.

Take advantage of every opportunity you have a chance to participate or lead. Rarely will you be given this much chance in life again.
IN WHAT WAYS HAS TOGETHERWESERVED.COM HELPED YOU REMEMBER YOUR MILITARY SERVICE AND THE FRIENDS YOU SERVED WITH.
I am only building that up now slowly.
