Reflections on GySgt Peters's
US Marine Corps Service
PLEASE DESCRIBE WHO OR WHAT INFLUENCED YOUR DECISION TO JOIN THE MARINE CORPS.
The pride and respect I had for my Father and my Mothers 2 older brothers. My Uncles joined during WWII and my father served between Korea and Vietnam.
WHETHER YOU WERE IN THE SERVICE FOR SEVERAL YEARS OR AS A CAREER, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE DIRECTION OR PATH YOU TOOK. WHERE DID YOU GO TO BOOT CAMP AND WHAT UNITS, BASES, SHIPS OR SQUADRONS WERE YOU ASSIGNED TO? WHAT WAS YOUR REASON FOR LEAVING?
I saw myself as an Enlisted man from the begining. I submitted for Warrant Officer but knew it would not fit my personality.
FROM YOUR ENTIRE MILITARY SERVICE, DESCRIBE ANY MEMORIES YOU STILL REFLECT BACK ON TO THIS DAY.
The lifelong friends and Brothers from around the Country and World. Knowing that at any time we will be there for each other no matter how long between visits.
OF ALL THE MEDALS, AWARDS, FORMAL PRESENTATIONS AND QUALIFICATION BADGES YOU RECEIVED, OR OTHER MEMORABILIA, WHICH ONE IS THE MOST MEANINGFUL TO YOU AND WHY?
My first Navy Achievement Medal. It was totally unexpected and submitted by one of the best Officers I served with, CWO-5 John Rego Retired.
WHICH INDIVIDUAL(S) FROM YOUR TIME IN THE MILITARY STAND OUT AS HAVING THE MOST POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOU AND WHY?
I was fortunate that there were many and for various reasons. They were either mentors, leaders or friends.
IN WHAT WAYS HAS SERVING IN THE MILITARY INFLUENCED THE WAY YOU HAVE APPROACHED YOUR LIFE AND YOUR CAREER? WHAT DO YOU MISS MOST ABOUT YOUR TIME IN THE SERVICE?
It started with my Parents and family's military background. Stand up for what you believe in, take responsibility for your actions and admit to your mistakes. Adjust to adverse situations regardless of how severe or ill timed. "Work hard play hard. Play hard work hard." JP Rego Semper Gumbus Always Flexible
BASED ON YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE WHO HAVE RECENTLY JOINED THE MARINE CORPS?
The grass is hardly ever greener on the other side. You make your career what it is. Your attitude is everything. Whether in the Military or out there will always be someone in your chain of command, above or below, that will iritate you to no end.
