Other Memories The Yellow Foot Steps, the hair cuts, the mob marching to the quonson huts, the time I called the drill instructor, you, and had to drink a whole bottle of TABISCO sauce and 50 push-ups and then there was the time I called Sgt Mares a DI and not Drill Instructor, that cost me about 75+ push-ups. ITR Company ?R?, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Training Regiment, Camp Pendleton, Calif. 18 May 1966, still have that picture 12x28. It was a good time, no extra duty, there was no KP or Maintenance Duty, in fact we were quarantined because of spinal meningitis in the unit. I think one person died from it. We did have to pull every thing out of the huts and do a complete field day of the whole area and disinfect it. We did close order and precision drills, had the mess hall all to ourselves, movies. But besides that it was O.K. a lot of freedom after boot camp. I do remember that one Friday inspection one person?s rifle was not as clean as it should have been and he had to bury his M-14 and water it all weekend, while the rest of us went on liberty, then he dug it up Sunday afternoon and cleaned it for inspection Monday morning.
