For service as set forth in the following:

CITATION:

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Private First Class Wilfred A Hunt (MCSN:290821), United States Marine Corps foe extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty while serving with the First Marine Raider Battalion, during the landing assault and seizure of japanese held Tulagi Island, Btitish Solomon Islands on 7 August 1942. With hostile machinegun fire holding up the foward element of his squad, Private First Class Hunt on his own initive and at great risk to his life, rushed the enemy position and anaided destroyed the Japanese machine-gunners with hand grenades. His great personal valor and fearless, determined action in effectively removing the threat to his squad and clearing the way for its futher advance, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
