Last Known Activity
On 19 February 1945, 2nd Lt. Robert Prior was killed in action during the assault across the island.  He served as the Platoon Leader, Machine Gun Platoon, Company A, 1st Battalion, 28th Marines, 5th Marine Division.

Note:

October 1943. Joined from Platoon Leaders' Unit, 7th Reserve District MB, Charleston, South Carolina. Rank of PFC. Enlisted to attend Candidates Class for Commissioning, January 1944. MOS 1542.

Reserve Officers' Class, MCS, MB, Quantico, Virginia January 1944. then to Camp Elliott, San Diego.  In July, joined up with A/1/28 at Camp Pendleton.
