 Additional Information
Last Known Activity
Mike was Commanding Officer of Company A 3rd Tank Battalion and was deployed in a defensive situation near Cam Lo in Quang Tri Province. Lt Oliver North was his infantry company security around the perimeter that the tank unit was deployed. At a very propitious moment in the early (0400) morning the NVA infantry launched an all out assault into the perimeter in which Mike had deployed his Tank Company. During the attack an NVA Grenadier fired an RPG which struck the Company command tank just as Capt Wunsch was popping up out to assess the situation. Mike took the force and fragmentation of the RPG hitting the hull of the tank in his chest region. He lived for approximately 5 minutes before succumbing to his wounds.

MIke Wunsch was a superb leader of US Marines and focused his attention upon his Marines constantly. He was a skilled linguist and had spent the first hafl of his RVN tour as an intereogator Translator with the 3RD Marine Divisions Interrigator/translator team. HAd he lived he would have been a very successful career Marine.
