Richard was born in Scotts Bluff,NE.His mother and family moved to the Los Angeles area,to be near family members. Richard enlisted in the Marines 5 August 1966 and graduated from the San Diego MCRD 6 October 1966. On 21 January 1967,Richard embarked on board MerAir,at MCAS,El Toro and arrived at Kadena AFB,Okinawa. 25 Januray 1967 Richard boarded GovAir,at Kadena AFB, Okinawa,and arrived at DaNang Airport in Vietnam. Upon arriving in country,he was assigned to Echo Company,2nd Battalion,4th Marine Regiment,3rd Marine Division. Richard died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest near Route 561,5 kilometers south of Con Thien(Hill 158),during Operation Kingfisher. He was single and served his country for 1 year,2 months and 21 days.KIA# 17,373. Richard had been in Vietnam for 9 months and 5 days. He was 19 years,4 months and 25 days. Survived by his uncle and aunt;Robert & Vera Ortiz Acevedo of 5141 11th Ave,Los Angeles, CA. His mother;Inez T Acevedo,and his brother; Michael Acevedo of Los Angeles,CA. His father;Larry Guevara,address unknown. Richard had a daughter with his girlfriend.
