Semper Fi Richard Marsh Platoon commander A Fine Marine 9/15/69: Loyd was killed when a Cobra helicopter gunship and a fixed-wing OV-10 Bronco fired on a platoon of Marines from Delta Company, 1st Bn, 7th Marines. The pilots were given clearance to fire when they gave incorrect coordinates for their target ("40 NVA in the open"). Loyd, a fine Marine, was the only KIA although 16 others were wounded and evacuated to the USS Sanctuary
