My Heart,Mind,Body and Sole was always with The Corps: UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS STAFF NCO CREED I am a Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Marine Corps. As such, I am a member of the most unique group of professional military practitioners in the world. I am bound by duty to God, Country, and my fellow Marines to execute the demands of my position to and beyond what I believe to be the limits of my capabilities. I realize I am the mainstay of Marine Corps discipline, and I carry myself with military grace, unbowed by the weight of command, unflinching in the execution of lawful orders, and unswerving in my dedication to the most complete sucess of my assigned mission. Both my professional and personal demeanor shall be such that I may take pride if my juniors emulate me, and knowing perfection to lie beyond the grasp of any mortal hand, I shall yet strive to attain perfection that I may ever be aware of my needs and capabilities to improve myself. I shall be fair in my personal relations, just in the enforcement of discipline, true to myself and my fellow Marines and equitable in my dealings with every man.

Training Exercise - Bold Regard '78
From Month/Year
September / 1978
To Month/Year
September / 1979

Description
NATO training exercise involving a night time mass airborne operation. Bold Guard 78 took place from 19 to 22 September 1978 with the participation of 65,000 soldiers, 660 battle tanks , 380 armored personnel carriers Marder , 36 anti-aircraft tank Gepard , 800 MTW ( personnel transport ) and 215 artillery pieces. In the air were 135 army helicopters and Starfighter of the German Navy in action. The Panzer Artillery Battalion 185, which participated in the full force exercise, in which 100 reservists had to be drafted to come to 100% war strength (V StAN ) participated, showed great agility and continuous fire support for the combat troops in all phases of the battle. The focus of Bold Guard '78 was inter alia in the interaction of amphibious associations with air forces.  In the press information center Neumünster first female from the Danish army officers worked. [26] From Norfolk / Virginia were transported to the USS "Shreveport" 650 US Marines across the Atlantic.  On September 21, 1978, the Schleswig-Holstein Prime Minister was Gerhard Stoltenberg  in person at the landing ORANGE in Südostseeteil the Baltic island of Fehmarnpresent. The amphibious sea landing was carried out with landing craft of the Bundeswehr. The fire protection from the air was provided by Cobra attack helicopters . The US Marines, commanded by Brig. Gen. AM Gray, had been tasked, on September 20, 1978, with the use of the airborne corps reserve, to conduct a counterattack against ORANGE's bridgehead in battalion strength. It was after the motto, "Who has the islands, the access to the North Sea" acted. Armored reinforcements of the 4th Amphibious Naval Brigade , which had only been brought in by sea, were able to throw the opponent's bridgehead. When ORANGE was smashed, helicopters, fighter jets (including Phantomand Intruder ) and M60 main battle tank  used. On interview questions for a possible confrontation in case of emergency, Brigadier General Gray responded with "We will come, we will be prepared, and we will fight."  He commented on the operational readiness of his force: "I pick up the phone and say go! " The Danish forces were commanded by Lieutenant General POW Thorsen, which is a defensive line between Kellinghusen , Steinburg County and the Bay of Lübeckdefended. Forces BLAU attacked after losing ground to a counterattack in the area Reinfeld , Bad Oldesloe , Henstedt-Ulzburg and Kaltenkirchen . US Marines made a landing on the Fehmarn Peninsula. The resulting damage to the ground was examined by 30 commissions, appraised and instructed to pay out. The damage amounted to a total loss of 24 million DM.  There were mainly in the district of Segebergnumerous severe ground damage, which were caused by the rapid change of the types of operations found. There were also property damage, miscarriages in cattle by the sonic boom of fighter planes, broken out cattle, deep tracks by tracked vehicles, vehicle damage by battle tanks  and destroyed lands. For the municipality of Seedorf alone , 218,000 DM had to be paid for maneuvering.  The damage is thus much larger than previously thought.  During the exercise Bold Guard 78 came during the preparatory phase four soldiers killed.
