Description Jan 6 – 15; SLF 1st Battalion, 9th Marines and 3rd and 4th Battalions Vietnamese Marines operation supported by HMM-362 from the USS Iwo Jima in the Kien Hoa Province. First direct commitment of US troops to combat in Delta region. The target area was the VC's Thunh Phu Secret Zone, which had been controlled bu guerillas for 20 years.
