From January 1964 until her retirement, Colonel Henderson served as Assistant G-1 (Personnel), Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. She was placed on the retired list with the rank of colonel, the rank she held as Director of Women Marines.

Col Henderson entered Basic School on 6May43 and graduated on 29Jun43 at MarTrngDet, USNR Midshipmen's School (WR), Northampton, MASS. She was appointed a Cadet in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve, with rank from 1 Jun 1943, appointment dated 1 June 1943. She was appointed a 2ndLt in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve, Class VI, with rank from 29 June 1943.
On 2 March 1959, she assumed duty as Director of Women Marines, with the rank of colonel. Upon assuming this post, Colonel Henderson became the third Director of Women Marines, succeeding Colonels Katherine A. Towle (1948-53), and Julia E. Hamblet (1953-59). Prior to this, there were three Directors of the Women?s Reserve, Colonels Ruth Cheney Streeter (1943-45), Katherine A. Towle (1945-46), and Julia E. Hamblet (1946-48).

The 3rd Recruit Training Battalion is composed of four training companies; India, Kilo, Lima and Mike. The recruit training battalion is responsible ensuring that each company is following the procedures set forth by the Recruit Training Regiment. Each company is responsible to follow the standards established by the Commandant of the Marine Corps to train, teach, mentor, and above all lead recruits through a demanding standard-based training system. 51% of all male Marines attend recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California

Other Memories Women were assigned Bldg 902 in the same area used by WWII WR's. They would share the mess hall, Bldg 900, and the administration/gym facilities, Bldg 904, with other activities, primarily the Recruit Depot's Instruction Co.
