USS Wainwright (CG-??) - cross decked to stay out of Bahrain for 2 weeks. During the cross-deck, the USS Robers (FG) hit a mine. USS Wainwright was first to arrive to tow the damaged USS Roberts to Abu Dahbi, UAE.
CH-46 damaged upon retrieval of RadioBn Marines from Hurcules due to forward rotor entangled with 2-strand wire (slash wire). Upon departured via Straits of Hormuz, missle launch downed an Iranian airliner.
Best Moment Saved a small bird trapped in 130 degree F heat in the well-deck of the Trenton. Watered and fed the bird on deck and the bird stayed for 2 days until we got close enough to land to fly away. I swear the bird flew around as if to thank me every time I was on deck for the next 2 days. Very cool.
Worst Moment Having to puch Hirko because he kept slamming a hammer down near my feet while I was climbing up into the quad-con. I told him to knock it off but he thought it was funny until that point. Wish we could have handled it differently but in the end we remained friends.
Chain of Command Capt Thomas Reeder was the CO of the 2nd Radio Bn detachment for MAGTF 2-88.
