I did get hit by a bear once at Camp Lejeune. We were in the field, and in the summer time I didn't tempt the chiggers by sleeping on the ground, I always slept in a hammock.
So one night, I am laying there in my hammock, covered in my poncho liner, trying to drift off to sleep. It was late, I was really tired but I am vaguely aware of some commotion in the camp, I hear some guys yelling something about a "bear" or some such nonsense?
Then I hear something crashing through the brush and just about the time I think it might be prudent to stick my head out and see whats up something hits me and knocks me completely around in a circle and onto the deck and as I look up I see this big shaggy a** running away through the trees....the dad gum bear never saw me and thankfully, he didn't come back to see what he had hit!
