Photo Imagery Interpretation Unit (PIIU) Detroit
The Detroit-based PIIU was created with the assigned task of interpretation of aerial photo imagery, of a classified nature, for various intelligence purposes.  The members were required to hold Top Secret/SBI security clearances to perform their duties.  Members attended various basic, and in some cases advanced, photo imagery interpretation/photogrammetry schools at FITCPAC (NB San Diego), FICEURLANT (NB Norfolk) or USAF (Denver).  Other advanced trainings included Naval Intelligence Processing System (NIPS)-Digital Data Base (1980-NIPSTRAFAC, NAS Key West) and USMC TENCAP Program (1982-NAS, Glenview).  The PIIU existed for 15-years, from 1968 until 1983.
