Better to have racehorces to rein back rather than donkeys you have to whip. Gen Moshe Dyan to Prime Minister Ben Gurion on why his paratroopers went beyond their objective on their own initiative (the East bank of the Suez Canal), and instead captured part of Egypt home terriitory and a large military airfield far beyond the Sinai where the war was taking place thus causing a political difficulty for the Knesset and PM.
