Memories For This Unit

Best Moment
March 21st, 1961 embarked on board USS OKANOGAN at Pearl and departed March 22nd, 1961. Arrived at Okinawa ? stayed anchored in the Bay one week. The reason for being there was the 3rd Mar Div from Okie had embarked and where headed for Udorn Thailand for ground support & security for Air America(that is what we where told). We where to stay at Okie and if the 3rd Mar Div needed help then we where to leave and reinforce them. Well nothing happened and we pulled Cinderella liberty and some how when the 3rd Mar Div got back to Okie the prices where higher and a buddy of mine who was stationed there told me it was our fault. Hey what did we know being from K-Bay and all. Got back to K-Bay April 22nd, 1961
