Edward R. Alves, 79, of Naples, Florida, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2006. Born in Boston, he grew up in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
He moved to Naples eight years ago from Fairfax Station, Virginia. Edward enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1945, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in the class of 1953.
He served in World War II, as well as in Vietnam. His last three years with the U.S. Marine Corps he worked in the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon and received a Presidential Citation. He retired after 20 years of service with the U. S. Marine Corps.
As a civilian he worked with the U. S. Marine Corps as Deputy Director of Human Resources and later he worked on the Board of Corrections of Naval Records as Chairman.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joanne; and three children, Mark Alves, Kimberly (E.R.) Bounds, and Leslie Elizabeth Alves. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Hunter M, Kane L. and Bradley S. Bounds, Shea W. Cahill, Logan E. and Riley E. Dow.
Colonel Alves was buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery on 3 March 2006.
