Served with Brother- Richard A. Sachs. I have known Rick since kindergarden. We signed up together in June 1974 on the buddy plan. We were split up at Paris Island during boot camp. After boot camp we caught up in Millington Tn. Went on and served at Beaufort MSAS together with VMFA-312 flight line.
During 1978, I had the opportunity to be an extra during the filming of The Great Santini. Also, several public relations photos with Robert Duvall. The photo later was included in a Marine Corps history book, "The Marines" Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, page 315.
Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 333 (VMFA-333) was a United States Marine Corps fighter squadron consisting of F/A-18 Hornets . Known as the "Fighting Shamrocks" and “Trip Trey”, the squadron participated in action during World War II, the Vietnam War andOperation Desert Storm The squadron’s aircraft were easily recognizable by the row of three shamrocks painted on the vertical stabilizersof their aircraft.
