Transcription of text in document UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS HEADQUARTERS 1ST MARINE DIVISION (REINF) FNF FLEET POST OFFICE SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA The Commanding General, 1st Marine Division (Reinf) FNF, takes pleasure in commending SEGEANT EARL C. UPTHEGROVE JR., UNITED STATES MARINE CORP RESERVE for services as set forth in the following, CITATION "For excellent service in the line of his profession while serving with a Marine Artilery Battalion during operation in Korea from 15 Sep to 3 Oct 1950. Sergeant UPTHEGROVE, serving as a section leader of an ammunition platoon, displayed great skill, courage, and confidence in the performance of his duties. Throughout this period he worked long tedious hours under the most adverse field conditions, supplying his battalion with vital ammunition used in support in the 1st Marine Regiment. On several occasions, he, with complete disregard for his own personal safety, made dangerous night trips while exposed to enemy sniper fire in order to deliver critically needed ammunition to his battalion when their supply on hand had been dangerously depleted, thereby setting an example for all who served with him, and materially contributing to the success achieved by his battalion. Sergeant UPTHEGROVE's conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service." Commendation Ribbon with the Combat "V" Authorized G.C. THOMAS, MAJOR GENERAL U.S. MARINE CORPS
