Football Island was a favored ambush site for Marines. Setting in at night and shooting across the dry wash at enemy troops moving on the path in the tree line at first light. The enemy held villes of Phu long 1 & 2 are behind the far treeline.
The path of 1967 is now a concrete narrow road with many residences. The island during monsoon floods yearly is under 6' of water. In 1967 there were dunes 6' to 8' high. With the exception of the missing dunes it is still the same as during the war.
