Other Memories
1972 was the year the United States returned Okinawa to Japan. We were on a float to Vietnam sometime during the year, and when we returned, Japan had taken control of the island.

Best Friends
I don't remember making frinds with anyone in Boot Camp. I did serve later with a couple Marines from my Recruit Training Platoon, and we became friends then. Richard Ramos and Thomas Taylor.
Best Moment
I think my best moment was being "high shooter" on the rifle range. In part because of that, later came "Honor Man" of our platoon.
Worst Moment
Of course, arriving at night by bus on Parris Island. I knew right away I had made a BIG mistake!
Other Memories
Laying in our racks at attention and singing the Marine Corps Hymn. Making animal sounds in a field on our hands and knees because we still couldn't march in second phase. Recruit Greene seeking me out every day in the mess hall so he could sit with me and make me laugh. That guy was funny. Especially when you know if you laugh, there will be hell to pay. I would love to see him again. And Sunday morning church service. The only time I could almost call my own.
