Description
The Marine Corps Oldest Mission - "to serve to advantage by sea" provided a Detachment of United States Marines to serve as a member of the crew of the Capital Ships of the Fleet.

Marines served fulfilling this mission from 1775 until 1998, when Marines Detachments aboard Capital Ships of the Fleet were deactivated.
