Marine Gary C. Brown has made his last muster with the Walworth County Marines and made a PCS move to Headquarters, Marine Corps, Heaven Barracks.   

Gary C. Brown: 58, Westlawn Ave. Elkhorn, WI died peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sunday January 1, 2012 at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center Milwaukee, WI.  Gary was born September 21, 1953 in Stevens Point, WI.  He was the son of Bruce A. and Dolores “Dolly” (Roy) Brown.  Gary attended the University of Minnesota- Duluth and received his Musical Instrument Repair Degree from Red Wing Technical College.  He was united in marriage to Sheila M. Schmidt on May 25, 1974 in Cloquet, MN.  In 1972 Gary enlisted into the US Marine Corps and played in the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego CA band until 1976.  He was a charter member of the Walworth County Marine Corps League Detachment, Past Commandant and Adjutant.  He was the Standing Rules Committee Chairman and Paymaster for the Department of Wisconsin, Marine Corps League.  Gary was an excellent musician who started playing at the age of 14 with Red and the Boys (The Talkabouts).  He played for the Duluth/Superior Youth and Adult Symphony, Cloquet Community Band, Lakeland Players and Holton Community Band, where he also announced the concerts.  Gary was employed for over 7 years with Breber Music Company of Elkhorn, WI as an instrument repairman.  He could pick up any musical instrument, play it, take it apart and rebuild it as good as new.
Gary was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.  “Papa” loved his grandchildren.  Hugging and playing with them was a great joy in his life.  He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sheila, 3 daughters: Leandra (Dan) Krueger of Tallahassee, FL, Melody (Tony Schmeiden) Brown of Elkhorn, WI and Laura (Jesse) Schoberg of Panama City, Panama.  3 grandchildren: Aria, Ava and Max.  Parents Bruce and Dolly Brown of Alexandria, MN.,  2 sisters: Diann (Russ) Parker of Trego, WI and Sue Bjerkness of Cloquet, MN.  2 brothers: Jeff Brown of Alexandria, MN and Doug (Tami) Brown of Cross Lake, MN.
Funeral services wiere held @11:00 am Thursday January 5, 2012 at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home 730 N. Wisconsin St. Elkhorn, WI with Father Jim Schuerman officiating, followed by military honors.
