Sgt. Stepp came to me as a Mess Chief replacement for two Company Messes at Dong Ha, RVN. His first day at Dong Ha, was a most unpleasant one. We received artillery fire from accross the DMZ, every hour, on the hour for about five hours.
I thought for sure, Sgt. Stepp would be rattled, and not be able to stay in the area effectively. He sure proved me wrong. We stayed together for a week, and he held up like the Marine he was. He remained up at Dong Ha for the duration of my time in country, and did an excellent job. He sure lived up to the proud traditions of a Tennesseean.
Where ever he is, at this stage in our lives, I want to convey my appreciation for the excellent performance of duty, to his troops, to himself, and our Corps under the most adverse conditions.
