The government began the process of moving towards elections, though the insurgency, and the lack of cohesion within the government itself, led to repeated delays.
Militia leader Muqtada al-Sadr used his grass-roots organization and Mahdi Militia of over a thousand armed men to take control of the streets of Baghdad. The CPA soon realized it had lost control and closed down his popular newspaper. This resulted in mass anti-American demonstrations. The CPA then attempted to arrest al-Sadr on murder charges. He defied the American military by taking refuge in the Holy City of Najaf.
Through the months of July and August, a series of skirmishes in and around Najaf culminated with the Imman Ali Mosque itself under siege, only to have a peace deal brokered by al-Sistani in late August. Al-Sadr then declared a national cease fire, and opened negotiations with the American and government forces. His militia was incorporated into the Iraqi security forces and al-Sadr is now a special envoy. This incident was the turning point in the failed American efforts to install Ahmed Chalabi as leader of the interim government. The CPA then put Iyad Allawi in power; ultimately he was only marginally more popular than Chalabi.
The Allawi government, with significant numbers of holdovers from the Coalition Provisional Authority, began to engage in attempts to secure control of the oil infrastructure, the source of Iraq's foreign currency, and control of the major cities of Iraq. The continuing insurgencies, poor state of the Iraqi Army, disorganized condition of police and security forces, as well as the lack of revenue hampered their efforts to assert control. In addition, both former Ba'athist elements and militant Shia groups engaged in sabotage, terrorism, open rebellion, and establishing their own security zones in all or part of a dozen cities. The Allawi government vowed to crush resistance, using U.S. troops, but at the same time negotiated with Muqtada al-Sadr.
Offensives and counteroffensives
Beginning 8 November, American and Iraqi forces invaded the militant stronghold of Fallujah in Operation Phantom Fury, killing and capturing many insurgents. Many rebels were thought to have fled the city before the invasion. U.S.-backed figures put insurgency losses at over 2,000. It was the bloodiest single battle for the U.S. in the war, with 92 Americans dead and several hundred wounded. A video showing the killing of at least one unarmed and wounded man by an American serviceman surfaced, throwing renewed doubt and outrage at the efficiency of the U.S. occupation. The Marine was later cleared of any wrongdoing because the Marines had been warned that the enemy would sometimes feign death and booby-trap bodies as a tactic to lure Marines to their deaths. November was the deadliest month of the occupation for coalition troops, surpassing April.
Another offensive was launched by insurgents during the month of November in Mosul. U.S. forces backed by peshmerga fighters launched a counteroffensive which resulted in the Battle of Mosul (2004). The fighting in Mosul occurred concurrently with the fighting in Fallujah and attributed to the high number of American casualties taken that month.
In December, 14 American soldiers were killed and over a hundred injured when an explosion struck an open-tent mess hall in Mosul, where President Bush had spent Thanksgiving with troops the year before. The explosion is believed to have come from a suicide bomber.
After a review of the military strategy in the end of 2004, then commanding general of the MNF-I, General George W. Casey, Jr. directed the Coalition forces to shift their focus from fighting insurgents to training Iraqis. At the time, the Iraqi insurgency was mainly directed against the occupation and it was believed that if the Coalition would reduce its presence then the insurgency would diminish. Military planners hoped that national elections would change the perception of being under occupation, stabilize the situation and allow the Coalition to reduce its presence.

On 30 January, an election for a government to draft a permanent constitution took place. Although some violence and lack of widespread Sunni Arab participation marred the event, most of the eligible Kurd and Shia populace participated. On 4 February, Paul Wolfowitz announced that 15,000 U.S. troops whose tours of duty had been extended in order to provide election security would be pulled out of Iraq by the next month.[18] February, March and April proved to be relatively peaceful months compared to the carnage of November and January, with insurgent attacks averaging 30 a day from the average 70.
Hopes for a quick end to an insurgency and a withdrawal of U.S. troops were dashed at the advent of May, Iraq's bloodiest month since the invasion of U.S. forces in March and April 2003. Suicide bombers, believed to be mainly disheartened Iraqi Sunni Arabs, Syrians and Saudis, tore through Iraq. Their targets were often Shia gatherings or civilian concentrations mainly of Shias. As a result, over 700 Iraqi civilians died in that month, as well as 79 U.S. soldiers.

During early and mid-May, the U.S. also launched Operation Matador, an assault by around 1,000 Marines in the ungoverned region of western Iraq. Its goal was the closing of suspected insurgent supply routes of volunteers and material from Syria, and with the fight they received their assumption proved correct. Fighters armed with flak jackets (unseen in the insurgency by this time) and sporting sophisticated tactics met the Marines, eventually inflicting 30 U.S. casualties by the operation's end, and suffering 125 casualties themselves.
The Marines succeeded, recapturing the whole region and even fighting insurgents all the way to the Syrian border, where they were forced to stop (Syrian residents living near the border heard the American bombs very clearly during the operation). The vast majority of these armed and trained insurgents quickly dispersed before the U.S. could bring the full force of its firepower on them, as it did in Fallujah.
Announcements and renewed fighting
On 14 August 2005 the Washington Post quoted one anonymous U.S. senior official expressing that "the United States no longer expects to see a model new democracy, a self-supporting oil industry or a society in which the majority of people are free from serious security or economic challenges... 'What we expected to achieve was never realistic given the timetable or what unfolded on the ground'".
On 22 September 2005, Prince Saud al-Faisal, the Saudi foreign minister, said he had warned the Bush administration that Iraq was hurtling toward disintegration, and that the election planned for December was unlikely to make any difference. U.S. officials immediately made statements rejecting this view.
Constitutional ratification and elections
The National Assembly elected in January had drafted a new constitution to be ratified in a national referendum on 15 October 2005. For ratification, the constitution required a majority of national vote, and could be blocked by a two thirds "no" vote in each of at least three of the 18 governorates. In the actual vote, 79% of the voters voted in favor, and there was a two thirds "no" vote in only two governorates, both predominantly Sunni. The new Constitution of Iraq was ratified and took effect. Sunni turnout was substantially heavier than for the January elections, but insufficient to block ratification.
Elections for a new Iraqi National Assembly were held under the new constitution on 15 December 2005. In response to a Mahdi Militia attack on Iraqi Security Forces on 05 August, Company C was ordered to seize key terrain surrounding Revolutionary Square in the heart of Najaf bordering the exclusion zone. As Company First Sergeant, he was repeatedly used in a multitude of ways in order to enable the company's attack against the enemy. Largely dependent on our organic HMMWV's and 7-ton trucks to move, the company was repeatedly forced to fight a battle on two fronts; one where the dismounted infantry were heavily engaged and another where our vehicles were staged at the logistical resupply point. As a result, he was time and again forced to move from position to position to ensure the safety and accountability of the company.
Upon making first contact with the enemy, Company C came under a hailstorm of RPG, machinegun, sniper, and mortar fire. Within minutes, thunderous explosions of 82mm mortars were landing within the company's lines wounding 3 Marines. First Sergeant LeHew left his position of cover and immediately went to the impact site to direct company corpsman to triage and assist the wounded. More mortar rounds impacted and he stood completely un-phased by the risks to his life. When complete, he moved approximately 500 meters to the company's combat trains staging point where on 3 separate occasions, he directed the fires of vehicle mounted weapons against enemy snipers and militia attempting to penetrate the rear lines of the company. For the next 6 hours, he repeatedly moved back and forth under the crack of sniper fire overhead and mortar explosions all around, to communicate the enemy situation and status of the Marines with the Company Commander. It must be made clear that even moving through the cemetery was extremely dangerous, filled as it was by thousands of crypts and tombs that offered concealment for enemy movement and under frequent accurate mortar fire. It is not an exaggeration to say that 1stSgt Lehew completely disregarded the risks, even as Marines were killed and wounded around him, and found his way to every hot-spot on the battlefield.
As the Battalion began its push into the Najaf cemetery, Charlie Company was tasked to clear enemy forces to the west out of the cemetery. This task included searching through hundreds of underground tombs and tunnels and identifying enemy weapons caches that could be further exploited. Within 50 meters of the initial advance, the company maneuvered against a well-positioned enemy defense and immediately came under a precise combined arms attack of mortar and machinegun fire. As the lead elements continued to advance under numerous exchanges of hand grenades and light machinegun fire, an attached platoon sustained three casualties and 1 killed in action. Without hesitation, First Sergeant LeHew assembled his casualty collection team and ran north along the company's lines under heavy enemy fire. Not knowing how far away the adjacent unit was, they pushed on alone, until they came upon the wounded Marines. Still under a barrage of mortar and machine gun fire, First Sergeant LeHew supervised the treatment and immediate evacuation of the wounded and dead allowing the attached platoon in contact to continue with the fight.
After advancing roughly 400 meters through the cemetery, the company reached its limit of advance. For the next 60 minutes, 1stSgt Lehew continually exposed himself to enemy fire to gain accountability of the company. During this consolidation phase, an enemy mortar impacted directly on the command post of an attached platoon to the left flank of the company. This blast resulted in three urgent medevacs to include the platoon commander, radio operator, and platoon guide. In seconds, First Sergeant LeHew and his medevac vehicle moved to the front of the company's newly formed consolidated lines. He was now completely exposed to enemy machinegun fire to our direct front. Arriving on the scene, he began to treat the wounded, stabilizing the Marines' extensive shrapnel wounds and preparing them for extract. His quick actions undoubtedly helped save the lives of all of the Marines.
The following day, the company moved south, fighting its way into a position bordered on three sides by Mahdi Militia strongpoints. Upon arriving, the company began taking fire from multiple story buildings on key terrain overlooking friendly units. Pinned down by enemy snipers and mortars, First Sergeant LeHew courageously moved throughout the company encouraging the Marines to return fire and hold this key terrain. While holding this position, which was a registered enemy mortar target, the company sustained an additional 6 wounded and two killed in action. On every occasion he was responsible to ensure that the treatment and evacuation of Marines was conducted. On one such case, he bypassed the battalion casualty collection point and took it upon himself to personally evac a Marine with a sucking chest wound all the way back to the FOB where he could receive more adequate treatment. Realizing the need to stabilize the Marine with no time to spare, his timely decision-making made the difference in saving this Marines life.
On the afternoon of August 12, Charlie Company commenced a coordinated attack with three platoons of Iraqi National Guard and a detachment of U.S. Army Special Forces, aimed at one of the centers of Moqtada al Sadr's leadership in Najaf. When one of the company's Marines was wounded from an enemy grenade, First Sergeant LeHew immediately responded to assist in the evacuation. Again showing little regard for his own welfare and incredible dedication to his Marines, he purposely exposed himself on numerous occasions to draw enemy fire allowing an opportunity for his Marines to advance into the building and evacuate the wounded Marine.
On 24 August, Company C was tasked with seizing a Mahdi Militia strongpoint 300 meters west of the Imam Ali Shrine. Having had months to prepare this position, the militia had created a complex defense in depth. The avenues of approach were registered mortar targets and were littered with improvised explosive devices. RPG gunners, heavy machineguns and snipers also covered these sectors of fire.
During the initial stages of this attack, First Sergeant LeHew acted as a guide to friendly platoons. He maintained an exposed position on a road that led to the company's objective and directed the movement of Marines arriving in armored vehicles. His efforts greatly reduced the confusion that was inevitable to occur under the barrage of mortars, hand grenades and sniper fire. On two occasions, after the entire company had been inserted into the attack, First Sergeant LeHew had to return to the AAV dismount point to direct adjacent units arriving into the fight. His actions in this regard were essential to keeping the single MSR leading into the Old City clear, prevented confusion among adjacent units, and limited the time our armored assets were exposed to enemy RPG fire at this critical intersection.
The stronghold the company held at the completion of this assault was vital to sustain operations aimed at continuing to apply pressure to the Mahdi Militia. In taking this position, the company sustained 10 casualties, one of which was urgent. Once again, his timely response enabled the company to continue the assault and successfully evacuated the Marines from the front lines. Now tasked to hold this position, the company began to build a defense that protected the battalion's single secure avenue into the Old City. The company would remain in this position for the next 48 hours. Realizing the health risks posed by the extremely poor and unsanitary residences, he enforced strict hygiene discipline, and established a plan to remove enemy KIA from our position.
This month long fight saw First Sergeant LeHew perform his duties in a manner above that expected of him. His combat leadership and judgment often meant the difference between life and death. On every occasion, under some of the most violent conditions imaginable, he performed his duties without fear. He is a warrior in every sense of the word who has time and again demonstrated bravery, compassion, and esprit de corps beyond comparison. First Sergeant LeHew inspired the Marines under his charge. His situational awareness and determination while under constant fire, was a force multiplier to the company's leadership. He is extremely deserving of recognition denoted by the Bronze Star with Combat "V".

Such legends flow freely throughout our society, especially in the Marine Corps, and their memories offer motivation to the weakest and strongest.
First Sgt. Justin D. Lehew doesn't believe Marines are heroes.
"There are heroes in life, but we are not it. We're just Marines," Lehew, company first sergeant, Company C, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), said after recalling the events of a dreadful day over a year ago.
The story of Jessica Lynch was well publicized, but the story of the Marines who came upon her unit's position an hour after the ambush, and the hellish battle those Marines endured that day, isn't as well known.
Lehew, a gunnery sergeant at the time, was awarded the Navy Cross for his actions that day, March 23, 2003. More than a year later and in the same country in which he earned it, Lt. Gen. James T. Conway, commanding general, I Marine Expeditionary Force, presented the medal to Lehew on July 24.
"This is something you'll probably never see again," said Conway, to the Marines who witnessed the Navy Cross being awarded. "This is second only to the Congressional Medal of Honor."
Lehew was a platoon sergeant for Company A, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, Task Force Tarawa, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. They were riding their way through Iraq in amphibious assault vehicles.
"I can remember the day pretty vividly," he said.
Just outside An Nasiriyah, his unit was the foremost unit overtaking the area where 8,000 Iraqi soldiers were thought to be surrendering.
They received a distress call from American soldiers in the area. It didn't make sense to Lehew because his Marines were supposed to be the foremost unit there.
"I jumped on the ground and started asking the Marines if they had seen any soldiers around," Lehew said. "They said they hadn't seen anything."
After pushing forward and searching for 2 1/2 kilometers they began to see burnt Army vehicles and after a little further, soldiers began to appear.
"I saw one pop up in the field we were in, then another popped up on the other side waiving his arms,? he said. ?Then we saw soldiers popping up all over the field waiving their arms."
The Marines just happened to come upon them an hour after the soldiers were ambushed. The Marines did their best to help the injured, two of which were critically injured, while under enemy fire.
"I put my corpsmen with the Army medics, and the soldiers were saying the reason many of them were alive was because of my Marines. I think it was because of their medics doing such a great job," he said. "This wasn't a (combat arms unit), but they did what they could for an hour until we arrived."
Lehew then had his Marines help the best way they could. They started "lighting up" the Iraqi infantry so they could help evacuate the injured.
"An (Army) warrant officer came up to me saying he was missing half his soldiers," Lehew said. "That turned out to be the group that was captured including Jessica Lynch."
Wasting no time, the order to press into An Nasiriyah came. While Marine Corps tanks were busy engaging the enemy in the outskirts of the city, the AAVs pushed into the city.
"Our job was to take the southern bridge," he said.
As soon as they moved into the streets a white van with a blue stripe pulled out in front of them and fired a rocket-propelled grenade. The thin-skinned AAVs swerved, successfully avoiding the RPG. The AAVs were all alone once they arrived at the bridge.
"Once we got on top of the bridge it got quiet for a minute,? he said. ?Then all at once it seemed like Armageddon opened up from all angles of the streets."
There was an Iraqi ambulance that was careening toward the front of the convoy. Lehew fired a warning shot but the ambulance refused to stop, so the Marines opened fire on the cab. When it stopped, and the Marines searched it, they found six Iraqis clad in black. Then more Iraqis in black began jumping out of cars after careening toward a weapons stockpile under the bridge.
"Swarms of Iraqis started converging on our positions," Lehew said. "There had to have been hundreds."
Many Iraqis started firing RPGs out of windows, doorways and cars.
"They were using women holding babies as spotters," Lehew said. "But we had to hold the bridge at all costs."
Reinforcements ? Marine Corps tanks - for Lehew's unit eventually came.
"I jumped up on the turret of the tank and peeled off the Marine's earpiece and told him to fire on a building that RPGs were coming out of," he said. "And when I jumped off, no sooner than my feet touched the ground the building was leveled."
It was right next to a mosque that was left untouched.
Lehew ran back to his Marines while under heavy fire the entire time.
"Then I remember our driver, who was from Georgia, said 'Hey look at those guys going the wrong way with their ramp open,'" Lehew said.
It was an AAV from another company whose mission was to take the northern bridge. Its back ramp had been blown open.
"I ran 70 meters to the back of that AAV," he said. "The cargo hatch was blown in."
On the way to the northern bridge, the AAV's unit had stopped for "surrendering" Iraqis who surprisingly ambushed them by turning around with AK-47s. Other Iraqis joined in with RPGs as Iraqi artillery, which had been plotted beforehand, rained down on them.
This particular AAV had tried to come back into the city with casualties to evacuate but an Iraqi with an RPG jumped behind it and fired into its back.
Lehew and his corpsman began to pull people out.
"When I got to the vehicle there was a young doc from Puerto Rico following me," he said. "He said 'I'm here as long as you're here gunny.'"
While still under continuous fire, Lehew and his corpsman were hurriedly pulling bodies and body parts out. They began to lose faith that anybody in the AAV had survived.
"We were about to leave the vehicle,? he said. ?I stepped into the center of the vehicle to gather the weapons and clear the radios when I heard a Marine gasp."
The Marine was underneath the hatch and was badly injured. The Marine had been reaching for his rifle when the vehicle was hit.
"Doc held his head as we ran him back to our vehicle," he said.
That was one of many wounded the two began to carry back. They soon moved them all inside a nearby house to a casualty collection point set up by the battalion executive officer.
There were casualties everywhere and even though the front half of the house was secured they didn't have enough Marines to defend the casualties.
"You could hear Iraqis in the back side of the house," Lehew said. "All I had was wounded Marines, no weapons. So I helped stabilize their wounds and I ran out to gather up weapons."
After gathering some weapons, Lehew went on a search for Marines.
"I grabbed two of the wounded Marines," he said. "I grabbed an M-16 and racked a round. I said 'If anybody comes through that way, shoot them. If they come this way, don't shoot them.'"
Lehew distinctly remembers a Marine he saw who was blown completely out of an AAV. He hobbled up to Lehew with several pretty bad injuries.
"This kid came up to me and said 'I can still fight gunny,'" Lehew sighed. "So I put a rifle in the kid's hands."
The intense fire never seemed to let up. Lehew knew he had to get all these men out of there.
"I started screaming over the radio net to get a medevac," he said. "Finally we started seeing birds in the air."
He saw several helicopters overhead and began to set up a hasty landing zone.
"That pilot needs to get a Distinguished Flying Cross because he landed in one of the hottest LZ's with power lines and poles all around," he said.
Then Lehew, his doc and a few other Marines began running casualties "a couple football fields" to the helicopter.
"The last thing I saw was a Marine's feet hanging out the back of the bird," he said.
Lehew and his Marines loaded back in the AAVs, and with the tanks firing to the left and AAVs firing to the right, they sped back out of "Ambush Alley." They headed to the northern bridge to support the other AAV company.
"They had all the advantage points. They were firing so many weapons from the rooftops and streets, it's a miracle nobody died in that convoy," Lehew said.
On their way back, they started seeing burnt up shells of AAVs every hundred yards. They stopped to assist that unit.
After the dust had cleared and the battle was done, Lehew and his men had evacuated 77 casualties from the scene.
He can remember that there were some Marines that all he could do to help them before they were evacuated was to "sit with them, hold their hand and tell them they'd be alright."
A couple days later, around midnight, they were told the Fedayeen were mounting a 2,000-man counteroffensive against them.
"We were very depleted on ammo and chow, but my Marines still had the attitude of 'Bring it on!'" Lehew exclaimed. "I was lucky enough to go through all this with one of the greatest group of Marines ever."
They never had to fight that battle because Marine artillery broke up the offensive before it made it to Lehew's men.
The sergeant said he feels the events of that day showed the steadfast courage of this generation of Marines.
"I've heard some say this video-game generation is weak, and that they could never live up to the legend of those at Tarawa and such," Lehew said. "These Marines fought more courageously than I could have imagined. Right now, the Marine Corps is the best it's ever been and it will only get better."
He holds no less confidence in his current Marines with Company C, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines.
"These guys are just as good," he said. "The Marine Corps is built upon the back of the infantry rifleman."
Lehew believes the Marine Corps' greatness comes from Marines pitted in days like this one and the camaraderie that comes from fighting side-by-side.
"Every Marine came into the Marine Corps to fight. They either have something to prove to themselves or someone else," he said. "It's the kids that can't hold their personal life together that win battles. It's the kid the platoon teases, or the kid that his buddies tease because he shoots marksman, that holds off half the Fedayeen. His biggest fear is not that he'll fail, but that he'll let his buddies down. What makes us elite is that we don't want to let each other down."

Training recruits. Being named a J after only a half cycle and going on to train 7 straight platoons as a JDI/SDI. Anything with the Marines of Golf Company in 96-98. Great bunch. SSgt Prine, SSgt Shaw and SSgt Glen Lollar were a true pleasure to work for! SSgt Lollar helped pull me through a bad time and I can never thank him enough.

Leadership change in Golf Company 1998. Anything relating to 1stSgt/SgtMaj Williams taking over the company. Told me I was a dinosaur and a throwback to the DI's of old and not what we need as a Drill Instructor in todays Corps nor teaching Marines at DI School.
Same guy I walked in on coming back from chow on my deck just prior to Final Drill "Loosening up" my platoon by having them clap and sing gospel songs. Needless to say, we did not take drill that cycle. Terrible 1stSgt/SgtMaj.
My last cycle as a SDI. Absolutely horrendous. SSgt Alvarez - Wish I could have given you a better cycle, my apologies Marine. You arrived at a bad time. I think about you alot to this day and wish things were different when you arrived. You would have loved being in one of my platoons on any previous cycle.

The United Nations and NATO later expanded the mission of the operation to include providing close air support for UN troops in Bosnia and carrying out coercive air strikes against targets in Bosnia. Twelve NATO members contributed forces to the operation and, by its end on 20 December 1995, NATO pilots had flown 100,420 sorties.
The operation played an important role in shaping both the Bosnian War and NATO. The operation included the first combat engagement in NATO's history, a 28 February 1994 air battle over Banja Luka, and in April 1994, NATO aircraft first bombed ground targets in an operation near Goražde. Getting Blood Stripped in the desert by 32 Marines. I made it to the 15th pair before my legs collapsed and the blood was pooling in my legs. They held me up for the last pair and those two practically broke my arms. I could not move for 4 days. To add insult to injury at least 28 of the marines were reservists that I did not even know as we were put in a reserve combat replacement unit. Not that the reserves were any less Marines. I did not like the fact that all they did most of the time was bitch about no mail and wanting to go home. They gave me absolutely no reason to hardly respect any of them and that was a shame. Not a one provided any type of role model nor mentoring to this young Corporal in the Corps. I am sure some will be offended if they read this but I really don't care...The truth hurts.

My only time serving in an H&S company. After UNITAS 31 with Yankee platoon, we returned stateside in December 1990 right before Christmas. Bn commander met us in the maintenance bay. He stated he was looking for volunteers to redeploy to Saudi Arabia immediately and we were to go home for Christmas. He said if we wanted to volunteer meet him in the maintenance bay on Jan 3rd. 7 of us showed on 3 January out of a Platoon of 45 or so. There was so much talk and chest beating on float about getting in the fight by everyone and it amazed me that not a one of the guys that was doing all of that were standing in the maintenance bay with me. That was when I said goodbye to my crewchief and best friend Robert Kimball when he told me he was not going to volunteer. I have never spoke to him since. My Platoon Sergeant was GySgt Adams and he was standing right next to me. We got to Saudi Arabia and became a combat replacement and maintenance company with the command element of 2nd Tracks and rode that out until the end of the "War". All Desert Storm was to me was a big mobilization exercise. There were a couple of firefights but it was more us than anyone else. We ran EPD's for a good couple of weeks with Tractors. I can still remember how stupid I was sitting in the back with 17 other Iraqi's and my weapon on safe. Highlight of my time in Kuwait was not returning stateside with my unit and volunteering to extend another 6 months to remain on rear party. One of the best times I ever had.
I remained in H&S co until 1992 and then transferred to Cco for service with the MEU.

Giving my rifle to another Marine for a night march so that I could carry a couple of cases of MRE's. That Marine ended up dropping my rifle during the hump and leaving it in the road a mile back before he told anyone. Ofcourse my information was on the rifle so the Drill instructor just assumed it was me and boy did I pay.
