In 1964 after some intense squad tactics and live fire competition, rifle squads from each of the 7 regiments met in Quantico, VA for a final competition.
The gold medal was awarded to indiviuals of the Top Rifle Squad in the Marine Corps.
The awards were presented by the Commandant in Washington, D.C.
With the medals came meritorious promotions. I was promoted to L/Cpl.
It was one of the proudest moments of my life.
