I wish the Narine Corps Martial Arts Program was available when I served. This was a great addition to a Marine's training. You know, they say a Marine and his rifle is the most deadly weapon weapon in the world. But what happens when the enemy is too close for the Marine to use his rifle and he must resort to hand-to-hand defense. Some Marines had prior training in the martial arts but most did not. The few hours of hand-to-hand training we had in boot camp was for naught. Without continuous practice, skills are diminished and soon forgotten. With this program, Marines will become even a greater threat to our enemies as they progress through and practice the art. I admire the Marines today who take their service seriously and persue this martial arts training to it's limits. It will save lives and strengthen the Marine Corps considerably. I believe when all Marines can meet the enemy one-on-one, hand-to-hand, without being concerned with the outcome because he/she has trained deligently in the art and has attained a high level of confidence of subdueing the enemy in such a situation. I like the idea and wish the program was available when I served.
