from  1964-1965, 0311, USS Fremont (APA-44/LPA-44)  album
Caribbean Cruise The USS Fremont was one of 3 ships that took our 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines to Vieques, Puerto Rico in August 1964, where the Betio Battalion lived and trained for several months. Then our Fremont Cruise Liner took us Island hopping on liberty during several occasions. The Cruise was scheduled for a six month period. At the start of the Caribbean Cruise, our Competition Squad, was in Washington, DC representing our regiment. So we missed the first leg of the cruise. We rejoined our battalion on 28Oct64, at Camp Garcia in Vieques, Puerto Rico.
