All my duty assignments as I remember are listed. I was a squad leader throughout my time with the First Marine Division in Vietnam. I served with Delta Company 1st Battalion 7th Marines at LZ Baldy 1970, Lima Company 3rd Battalion 5th Marines at hills 37 and 34 1970, and Golf Compnay 2nd Battalion 1st Marines at Marble Mountain 1971. I was wounded in action twice and medivaced out to Okinawa Japan in April of 1971 after being wounded for the second time. I was a Drill Instructor/Senior Drill Instructor with Lima Company (Limping Lima), 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD San Diego CA., from September 1976 till October 1978. I also served a tour of Instructor Duty with Utilities Instruction Company, Marine Corps Engineer Schools, Court House Bay, Camp Lejeune NC, April 1983 till October 1985.
While My MOS was 1169 (Utilities Chief) when I retired, the MOS's I associate with the most are 0311 Infantry ( 4 & 1/2 years), and my time in Vietnam as an infantry squad leader, and 8511 Drill Instructor, and 2 years on the drill field, as they were the most intense! While the rest of my career was in Utilities (Engineers), Throughout my entire career, just about every Marine I met was top of the line. In my book, Marines are Marines no matter what the MOS.
