LtCol Snead and his crew of four others were killed when the C-117 he was piloting flew into the side/top of a mountain approx 10 miles south of Chu Lai.

Graduated U. S. Naval Academy in the class of 1953 and commissioned USMC. Killed in operations in Quang Tin, Viet Nam

Commissioned USMC on graduation from U. S. Naval Academy in class of 1953, entered flight training st Pensacola and designated Naval Aviator. While serving in First Marine Air Wing in Quangt Tin Province Viet Nam he was killed in crash of C-117D Bureau Number 17284 when it hit a mountain top 10 Miles SW of Chu Lai Air Base.[Coffelt database of Viet Nam casualties)
