Birth and Early Life:
Waldean was born in Spearman, Texas on November 21, 1921. He grew up in nearby Perryton with six older siblings; little is known about his life prior to his enlistment.
Enlistment and Boot Camp:
Black enlisted around May 1941; he trained at MCRD San Diego where he qualified as a Sharpshooter and was accepted into Sea School.
Wartime Service:
The newly-made Private Black sailed from San Diego to Pearl Harbor in September, 1941. He joined the marine detachment aboard the USS Oklahoma that fall.
Date Of Loss:
Private Waldean Black was killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced on June 26, 2019 that Marine Corps Pvt. Waldean Black, 20, of Perryton, Texas, killed during World War II,  was accounted for on Dec. 13, 2018.
