Prior to movement to the P.I., First Sergeant Joseph A. Adriaensen, served with A Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines in Shanghai, China.

In the P.I., he was with I Company, 4th battalion, 4th Marines.

He was captured by the Japanese after the fall of Corregidor on 6 May 1942. He was held and died in PW Camp #3 - Old Bilibid Prison, Rizal, Manila, Philippines 14-121.  (Reported 23 June 1942
