PFC Ralph Goudy enlisted on 10 July 1939.

In June 1040, he was assigned to Company B, Marine Detachment, American Embassy, Peiping, China as an Embassy Guard.  He was ordered to surrender to the Japanese on 8 December 1941. Listed in the Muster Rolls with this note: January 1-31, 1942   "In the hands of the enemy." Company A, Marine Detachment, American Embassy, Peiping, China.

He was moved to the Tokyo #5 POW camp in Kawasaki, Japan.
He apparently died on 12 March 1944 of food poisoning.  POWs were always hungry and he had found an open can of with food remains inside. Cause of leath was listed as heart attack. Evidence of his death was received by the Marine Casualty Division on 25 October 1944.

Like many other deceased POWs, his body was cremated.

His interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lewistown, Illinois.
