In unusal Circumstances he was added to the Vietnam Wall in 1987 after his death in 1986. He had received his injuries in 1968 and spent his life in a wheelchair.

Note:
PFC Abbenhaus was severly wounded in December 1968. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1969. Due to his wounds, he was not able to use the lower part of his body.
