Malone was with Kilo 3/3 when it was opcon to 3/4 and on a squad sized killer team sweep, when they encountered an estimated company size NVA in a heavy engagement. Kilo suffered 5 KIA including Malone and 16 WIA while accounting for 16 confirmed NVA
