 In the early morning hours of September 10 a large Viet Cong force launched their attack on, CAP-D4 (Combined Action Platoon) that was located just north of the Song Dien Binh (River) and west of Highway 1 in the Dien Ban District of Quang Nam Province.
The VC quickly overran the defenders, utilizing mortar fire, B-40 RPGS and Bangalore torpedoes breaching the wire.
US losses in the attack were six Marines and one Navy Corpsman:
