PFC Tuck entered the Marine Corps ion 29 April 1943. He was trained as a parachutist in Company B, Parachute Training School, Camp Gillespie, San Diego, California, July 1943-January 1944. (Parachute program ended.)

Then assigned to H&S and I Company, 27th Marines, 5th Marine Division, FMF at Camp Pendleton, California in January 1944.

His brother, Richard, was in the PTO at this time and on Iwo Jima.  They apparently saw one another at one point before PFC Tuck was killed.
