This was a PR photo for the first USMC M-14 test against the M-1. As a grunt L/Cpl I did not see the final report, but the main issue was ammo hog with the full auto selector. The selector was removed and this would have been the best battle rifle ever. Just think, essentially an M1 with a 20 rnd box magazine! But the M-16 soon took its place, and weight ammo was one of the main considerations!
