his radioman the night he died
Please be sure to mention at your reunions that Lt. Neuss died a hero, facing down a 30 calber machinegun with a pistol.
With the close calls we had been through before this, it was hard to believe he didn't survive one more.
As an enlisted man I wasn't allowed to get too close to officers.
But in the short time I knew him, it was obvious that he was a man of character and humor.
The world is a lesser place for his loss.

Bill(Vandy) and I went to high school and college together. He was on a national championship college basketball team.
(Mt. St. Mary's College, MD.)
Bill died as he had lived.
He went 100% at whatever he did. I
know of no person who disliked him. We miss you Bill, and remember you at EVERY high school and college reunion. God speed.
You are missed!

It is said that bad things happen to good people. My cousin Bill was one of those good people.
Alot can be said about a 6'5"
Marine Officer who volunteers for Infantry. We miss you, Bill!
We have been to your grave site in Bellport, New York, and remembered you there in prayers.

In Memory of Bill
I went to Mt. St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, MD., with Bill, and we graduated together.
I was also in the marines at the same time.
Bill was a great basketball player at Mt. St. Mary's.
He was unpretentious, friendly and a great guy.
His classmates and friends respected him. I remember the last time I saw Bill. I was coming out of a theater in Washington D. C. We talked, and he said he was headed for Nam.
While at Quantico Marine Corps Base, I ran into Marine Mike Long, another Mt. St. Mary's classmate, and he told me that Marine Kip Jarret, a chopper pilot and also a
Mt. St. Mary's classmate, picked up and was medevacing Bill when he died in transport.
His classmates, friends and loved ones, will always remember Bill.
His life was taken in his youth, and he is missed. We should never forget that he gave his life in the service of his country.
Semper Fi Bill,
