Master Sergeant Aaron C. Torian, USMC was laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, February 26, 2014.  RIP.  


   
Comments/Citation

Born in 1977, in Paducah Kentucky, MSgt Torian lived in various locations in the American southeast before his family settled in Waldorf, Maryland. Graduating from Thomas Stone High School in 1995, MSgt Torian subsequently attended the University of Tennessee Martin where he proved a gifted student athlete winning a football scholarship, a 3-year “Letter” in football and numerous athletic awards.
   Completing course requirements in Sports Management in May 2000 he worked as an electrician’s helper in Washington DC and then served in several health and fitness internships in Nashville, Tennessee completing his internships in April 2001, he then received his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in Sports Management.
    Continuing to pursue his education, he attended graduate school at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee. Serving on the staff of the university’s football program as an assistant defensive line and strength coach, he completed his course requirements in December 2002 and was awarded a Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership.
    In March 2003 while conflicts in the Middle East were escalating, MSgt Torian enlisted in the Marine Corps as an infantryman. Following attendance at recruit training and Infantry Training Battalion, he completed reconnaissance screening and subsequently was assigned to 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion completing Amphibious Reconnaissance School and S.E.R.E. training, he was then assigned as an Assistant Team Leader and finished his tenure at Recon Battalion as a Team Leader.
    Meritoriously promoted to Sergeant, he was also selected as Recon Battalion NCO of the quarter, The Vanguard Award, and 2D Marine Division NCO of the year in 2005. He successfully completed the EMT Basic and Airborne Parachutist courses. Serving in Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom, MSgt Torian has completed two tours to Iraq, Al Anbar province and three rotations to numerous  provinces in Afghanistan.
    MSgt Torian joined 2D MSOB in December 2006 and successfully completed 18C Special Forces Engineer Sergeant, Scout Sniper Basic, Advanced Winter Mountain Leaders, Machinegun Leaders, HALO, Jumpmaster, and numerous specialized skills courses. GySgt Torian was an original member of Hotel Co. which was the first company to deploy as individual MSOT’s. He has served as assistant  and element member in MSOTs 873, 8223, and 8222. MSgt Torian currently serves as Team Chief for MSOT 8232.
    MSgt Torian was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (Combat Meritorious) on 2 December 2009, and was promoted to his current rank on 1 September 2013. His awards include the Purple Heart, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with three stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign, and the Good Conduct Medal. He is married to his wife, Jurley, and has three children: Elijah, Avery, and Laura Bella. His hobbies are spending time outdoors going to the beach with his wife and family.
