It's 4:32 A.M. in Afghanistan, and I'm not sure what got me thinking about Josh, but it's not all that unusual for me think about him at random times. He and I went through TBS in the same platoon, and over the six months we spent there I had the pleasure of getting to know Josh a good bit. One of our last days there he looked at me while we were walking up a ladderwell, and he said to me "It's a shame you're an air contract (I had orders for flight training), you'd make a good infantry officer." From Josh, I took that as a compliment of the highest order. For him, there was no greater calling. While I suspect it is little consolation, and can not assuage the anguish over his loss, please know that he is not and never will be forgotten. He has become an integral part of our Corps's history, and in the future, men going into battle will think of him and of all the others who have gone before, and their selfless example will be a source of courage and solemn pride that will carry them through in their darkest moments. So long as a single Marine breathes, the Corps will live, and with it will live a piece of Josh.
